Guardiola slams call for Young Boys v Man City on artificial pitch

Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher feels that scrutiny over Manchester City’s charges for alleged financial misconduct has “gone quiet” in recent months. The reigning champions face an independent investigation after the Premier League found that there could be 115 breaches of its financial regulations.

Carragher believes there is unfair coverage of the investigation into City’s alleged breaches compared to a similar probe involving Everton. It was reported on Wednesday that the Premier League wants the Toffees to be deducted 12 points after an alleged breaking of Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

In March, the league referred Everton to an independent commission after it found the club to have made one breach of financial rules. It did not provide further details at the time. The final ruling will be made by the independent panel, while Everton deny any wrongdoing.

That came a month after Man City were also referred to an independent commission over 115 charges. A lengthy Premier League investigation found the alleged breaches to have occurred between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the Premier League wants a maximum points deduction of 12 points to be imposed on Everton. However, that stance has annoyed former England defender Carragher, who believes far more is made of Everton’s situation than City’s.

“The PL want a 12-point deduction for Everton for one charge. Man City are going to end up in the National League North if the PL get their way!!” Carragher tweeted in response to the story.

“Unbelievable the amount of stories that come out about Everton’s situation, but Man City’s, which has 114 more charges and has gone on for much longer, has gone very quiet.”

Everton and City both deny wrongdoing. The Toffees said at the time that they were “disappointed” by the outcome of an investigation.
