Great Britain will be sweating over the fitness of Cameron Norrie ahead of the Davis Cup after the 28-year-old withdrew from the Paris Masters with a new injury. Norrie has already been named in the British quintet for the knockout stages of the Davis Cup, which are set to take place in Malaga next month.

Dan Evans, Andy Murray and Jack Draper have also been selected by captain Leon Smith, while doubles specialist Neal Skupski will feature alongside the quartet in an unchanged line-up from last month’s qualifiers. However, it seems as though Norrie’s place in the team could be at risk following his withdrawal from the Paris Masters.

Norrie was scheduled to face Alexandre Muller in the first round on Monday but it has been confirmed that he will not take part in the event after suffering an injury to his right knee. He required treatment during his defeat to Alexander Zverev in Vienna on Wednesday and will be desperately hoping to return before the Davis Cup finals begin next month.

The one-time Wimbledon semi-finalist has endured a turbulent time of things as of late, with his general lack of form adding to a series of frustrating injury setbacks. However, he is still a hugely important player for Great Britain and will be expected to lead from the front if he recovers well enough to feature in Malaga.

Norrie’s withdrawal from the Paris Masters comes after Evans pulled out of the same tournament, with the 33-year-old arguably Britain’s best player in their recent Davis Cup group stage ties. He managed to claim the spoils in both the singles and doubles, pairing up with Skupski to win the decisive match that saw Britain qualify for the finals.

Both players will be crucial to the team’s hopes of beating Serbia in the finals if they are declared fit to play, with Novak Djokovic having already identified Evans as Britain’s biggest threat.
