Antony also received a yellow card for kicking out at Man City&#8217;s Jeremy Doku, which Neville also called &#8217;embarrassing&#8217; after the match.<\/p>\n<p>His display brought criticism from some online, including Sunday Times journalist Jonathan Northcroft who claimed Anthony was &#8216;not good enough to start&#8217; while also pointing out that he was &#8216;Man United&#8217;s second most expensive signing&#8217;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/30\/16\/77180989-0-image-a-3_1698684929353.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Gary Neville believes that the Glazer family are responsible for signing Brazilian winger Antony (pictured) not Erik ten Hag\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/30\/16\/77181013-0-image-a-22_1698685191186.jpg\" height=\"387\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Antony was criticised for his performance during United&#8217;s 3-0 defeat by Man City on Sunday,\u00a0 lashing out after a foul on Belgian winger Jeremy Doku at the end of the match<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/30\/16\/77181051-0-image-a-21_1698685184977.jpg\" height=\"389\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Neville believed that the Glazers have &#8216;panicked&#8217; in their recruitment in the past and added it was not a good decision to buy him during the end of the 2022-23 campaign<\/p>\n<p>In reply, Phil McNulty added &#8216;Antony cost Manchester United \u00a380million and no one can blame the Glazers for that. This one is on Ten Hag and United overpaid monstrously.&#8217;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Despite that, former United defender Neville, offered his view on those claims on X (formerly Twitter), stating that Man United&#8217;s owners were in fact responsible for signing the Brazilian in August 2022 claiming that they had &#8216;panicked&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Hi Phil,&#8217; he said in response. &#8216;I get what you\u2019re saying but if the kids ask for something on a continual basis and the parents keep writing the cheque who do you blame?<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Context on Antony. We\u2019d just lost to Brighton and Brentford and the club was in reactive panic mode as per usual and sanctioned and said \u201cYes\u201d to Casemiro and Antony.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It\u2019s all on the Glazers for complete panic and lack of leadership! They\u2019ve done this for 10 years. CR7 [Cristiano Ronaldo] to City and panic.\u00a0Alexis [Sanchez] to City and panic.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After having worked under Ten Hag at Ajax, Man United swooped in for the winger, who had scored 12 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions during the 2021-22 season for the Eredivisie side.<\/p>\n<p>It came after United wrapped up the season, losing five of their final 10 matches, including their last two games, a 4-0 loss against Brighton and a 1-0 defeat by Crystal Palace.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Antony joined that summer alongside\u00a0Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez and\u00a0Tyrell Malacia with the quartet costing approximately \u00a3215.1m.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/30\/16\/77181065-0-image-a-9_1698684957990.jpg\" height=\"437\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The Glazer family have received much criticism of late for how they have run the club<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/30\/16\/77180703-0-image-a-11_1698684973024.jpg\" height=\"212\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/30\/16\/77180701-0-image-a-10_1698684966497.jpg\" height=\"550\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Neville discussed the decision to sign Antony with several journalists on X (formerly Twitter)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/30\/16\/77181053-0-image-a-8_1698684953036.jpg\" height=\"440\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club&#8217;s new minority shareholder, has also questioned the Glazers&#8217; recruitment strategies<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Ajax couldn\u2019t believe we\u2019d offered that money [for Antony],&#8217; He added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Owners and Directors sanction deals.
