Novak Djokovic managed to fool a well-known YouTuber into believing he was a footballer for AC Milan after the tennis icon made an appearance at the Ballon d’Or awards ceremony on Monday. The Serbian is known for his playful jokes away from the court and after finding himself among some of football’s biggest names in Paris, the 24-time Grand Slam winner couldn’t resist pretending to be one for the evening.

The 36-year-old decided to make an appearance at the star-studded event in Paris on Monday night, where Lionel Messi is set to collect his eighth Ballon d’Or prize after helping Argentina win the World Cup.

Djokovic is in the French capital for the Paris Masters, where he will go into the tournament at the round of 32 stage. Just days ago, he was spotted in the crowd at the Rugby World Cup final alongside singer Rita Ora watching on as South Africa beat New Zealand at Stade de France.

And during his downtime, the veteran tennis star decided it would be funny to pull a prank on American YouTuber Speed, who appeared to have no clue who Djokovic was when the pair met at the ceremony.

Speed – known from his YouTube channel IShowSpeed – starts off their interaction by saying: “You look so familiar!”, to which Djokovic replies; “I’m… uh… I’m a new star for AC Milan.”

The American then claims to recognise Djokovic from Milan but couldn’t remember his name. And the world No 1 decides to carry on the prank as they continue talking.

“Ah yeah yeah yeah, I know now,” Speed says, before Djokovic goes on: “I haven’t played yet but I’m getting on in the next game.”

The mention of AC Milan might take some by surprise given his Serbian roots with two of Serbia’s biggest clubs – Crvena Zvezda and Partizan – situated in Belgrade, the city of Djokovic’s birth.
