after Australia withdrew from contention to stage the tournament<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>FIFA will officially confirm the hosts of the 2030 and 2034 World Cups next year<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Saudi Arabia&#8217;s hosting of 2034 is effectively a formality as the only bidder<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Listen to the latest episode of Mail Sport&#8217;s podcast &#8216;It&#8217;s All Kicking Off!&#8217;\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Saudi Arabia will host the 2034 FIFA World Cup after the nation was confirmed as the sole bidder for the tournament by the governing body.<\/p>\n<p>FIFA announced earlier this month that only bidders from Asia and Oceania would be considered for 2034, citing continental rotation of the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>The move came with Spain, Portugal and Morocco agreeing to stage the 2030 World Cup, with Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay each hosting one match.<\/p>\n<p>Saudi Arabia presented a letter of intent to host the 2034 event shortly after FIFA&#8217;s declaration.<\/p>\n<p><span>Football Australia, who were viewed as the only likely rivals to a Saudi bid, announced on Tuesday it had decided against bidding to host the tournament.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/31\/16\/77231985-12694007-image-a-15_1698769428212.jpg\" height=\"478\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Saudi Arabia has been confirmed as the sole bidder for the 2034 FIFA World Cup<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/31\/16\/77209271-12694007-Now_Saudi_Arabia_look_set_to_host_in_2034_with_FIFA_president_Gi-a-16_1698770912967.jpg\" height=\"434\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>FIFA president Gianni Infantino (middle) attended the launch of Saudi Arabia&#8217;s Esports World Cup last week in Riyadh (seated next to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman)<\/p>\n<p>Countries hoping to host the 2034 World Cup were required to express formal interest by October 31 provide a signed bidding agreement by November 30.<\/p>\n<p>FIFA has now confirmed the declarations of interest for both the 2030 and 2034 tournaments, effectively confirming the hosts of the World Cups.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The governing body has said it will conduct a thorough bidding and evaluation process, with formal confirmation of the appointments set to be made by the FIFA Congress in the final quarter of 2024.<\/p>\n<p>FIFA say the process will be evaluated against\u00a0minimum hosting requirements and say dialogue will take place regarding &#8216;infrastructure, services, commercial, and sustainability and human rights&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>While FIFA stated requirements must be met in the evaluation reports, the announcement of Saudi Arabia as the sole bidder for 2034 has made awarding of the tournament to the nation effectively a foregone conclusion.<\/p>\n<p>The awarding of the tournament to Saudi Arabia would likely require another winter World Cup, with Qatar&#8217;s hosting having forced Europe&#8217;s top leagues to\u00a0<span>pause their seasons last November and December.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>With temperatures in Saudi Arabia regularly hitting as high as 43 degrees celsius in summer, a winter slot is the only humane option for a World Cup.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Saudi Arabia&#8217;s hosting would be met with controversy,\u00a0<\/span>despite them expanding their sporting portfolio in recent years with Formula 1, boxing and the recruitment of stars like\u00a0Cristiano Ronaldo and\u00a0Karim Benzema\u00a0to the Saudi Pro League.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/31\/17\/77233943-12694007-image-a-23_1698772403485.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Infantino and FIFA are likely to face criticism should Saudi Arabia be ratified as the hosts<\/p>\n<p>Amnesty International, a vocal critic of Saudi Arabia&#8217;s push into elite-level sport, said on Tuesday that the Kingdom would need to give FIFA &#8216;clear and binding commitments&#8217; on areas such as human rights, in order to be awarded the prestige of hosting a World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Human rights commitments must be agreed with potential hosts before final decisions on holding the tournaments are made,&#8217; they said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The best chance for Fifa to obtain binding guarantees to protect workers&#8217; rights, ensure freedom of expression and prevent discrimination linked to the World Cup is during the host selection process &#8211;
