Erik ten Hag has insisted he is not thinking about transfers despite Manchester United’s poor start to the season.

United have endured a dismal campaign so far, losing eight of their first 15 matches in all competitions, while they are already eight points off the top four in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, they face a challenge to qualify from their Champions League group after losing their first two games against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray, while they were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup following a dreadful 3-0 defeat to a much-changed Newcastle side this week.

That loss to Newcastle came just three days after they were brushed aside by neighbours Manchester City by the same scoreline, with the Red Devils losing successive home games by three or more goals for the first time since 1962.

However, speaking ahead of Saturday lunchtime’s trip to Fulham, Ten Hag – who guided his side to third last season along with a Carabao Cup triumph – reaffirmed his faith in his team.

Ten Hag and his squad have come under heavy scrutiny after losing eight of 15 games so far

‘I have a good squad and I’m convinced about the players in the dressing room,’ he said.

‘We saw these players last year. These players can do a lot better but it is up to me to let them play better.

‘I take the responsibility to let them play better. I will put every effort to get this done and I am not thinking about transfer windows because I have a good squad.

‘When the players are available, we will play better definitely.’

Ten Hag’s comments come after reports broke that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has pledged to invest $300m (£245m) to improve Manchester United‘s ageing infrastructure as he prepares to take a 25 per cent stake in the club.

The British billionaire last month agreed a £1.3bn deal for a quarter of the club from the hugely unpopular Glazer family.

British billionaire last month agreed a £1.3bn deal for a 25 per cent stake in the Red Devils
