Kyrell Lisbie was unable to hold back his emotions after an injury ended his FA Cup dream early shortly after crossing in for Cray Valley Paper Mills’ equaliser against Charlton on Sunday. The script was written for Lisbie to play a part in his side’s FA Cup hopes against his dad’s former side.

Kevin Lisbie was an icon for Charlton during their Premier League days, playing 168 games for the Addicks. His 19-year-old son has been making a name for himself in non-league football in the Isthmian South East division and he secured Cray Valley PM’s place in the first round proper of the FA Cup.

They were rewarded with an away trip to Charlton and it was a close match between the two sides, despite 117th places between them in the football pyramid. Scott Fraser had given the hosts the lead early in the first half, but the eighth-tier side weren’t giving up without a fight.

They came out with intent to start the second half and got their just rewards three minutes in.

Lisbie found himself in plenty of space down the left wing and the teenager played a teasing low cross into the box. Charlton defender Lucas Ness couldn’t do anything to avoid tapping into his own net as he attempted to block the cross, sparking pandemonium among the travelling supporters.

Lisbie was mobbed by his team-mates for making the goal, but his match was cut short minutes later. The attacker went down with what appeared to be cramp and he burst into tears, bringing his shirt up to cover his face.
