Police are investigating an allegation that a 13-year-old girl was sexually assaulted during Rangers' 5-0 win over Dundee FC.

The incident was reported to have occurred in the Bob Shankly Stand, where away fans are situated, during last Wednesday's (November 1) Scottish Premiership fixture at Dundee's Dens Park.

The match had been delayed for 45 minutes due to the Gers' team bus getting caught in traffic on the way to the stadium and was then suspended for 18 minutes during the first half after the travelling supporters let off a large number of flares, triggering fire alarms.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed they're now looking into the alleged offence. They said: "We are carrying out enquiries following an allegation of sexual assault involving a 13-year-old girl which happened at Dens Park in Dundee on Wednesday 1 November 2023."

Officials from Dundee FC, meanwhile, have said they're supporting police in their investigation. A spokesperson said: "Dundee Football Club can confirm we are aware of an incident which took place in the Bob Shankly stand during Wednesday's match against Rangers.

"The club are fully supporting the police investigation and the club's child welfare and protection officer is supporting the situation. As this is an ongoing police investigation the club will be making no further comment."

Rangers fans were criticised for their use of pyrotechnics. Their manager Philippe Clement last week warned: "The pyro thing we don’t need. It doesn’t give something extra. It’s dangerous.

"It used to happen more. It’s good there are rules. It’s dangerous. We need to avoid it. I’ve seen it a lot in the past. But it’s good there are strict rules because we need to avoid the danger for people.”
