Tottenham fans couldn't believe what they were seeing during the first-half of their Premier League clash against Chelsea after another VAR nightmare.

The London rivals went head to head at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium with Dejan Kulusevski scoring thanks to a huge deflection after just six minutes – before Destiny Udogie somehow avoided a red card for a two-footed lunge which almost caught Raheem Sterling.

Sterling then thought he had equalised before his goal was ruled out for handball – and Cristian Romero also avoided red after a VAR check, having booted Levi Colwill off the ball.

A penalty was then given for a tackle by Romero on Enzo Fernandes – which was also serious foul play which led to a straight red card.

Giving his thoughts on Sky Sports, Gary Neville said of the first two red card calls: "So, Udogie should be off and Romero is a lucky boy."

He then added of the penalty drama: "It's a mad challenge by Romero. For me, it's a penalty. And he is in trouble because it is high – he might go here…

"It's not a natural follow through. It's definitely a penalty but for me, it's whether it is a red."

Cole Palmer then scored from the spot before Nicholas Jackson managed an offside goal of his own as Mauricio Pochettino's side looked to make their dominance count.

The 45 minutes also included an offside goal for Son Heung-min, with Neville picking out the ill-discipline of Ange Postecoglou's players.

They went into the game as the only unbeaten side in the Premier League after Arsenal's defeat, looking to climb back to top spot.
