Paul Scholes believes Manchester United got the “job done” against Luton Town, despite another laborious performance.

Victor Lindelof’s scrappy goal was enough to secure three points against the relegation battlers. United missed a host of chances with £72million man Rasmus Hojlund particularly guilty of some poor finishing in front of goal,

Nevertheless, the victory saw them move into sixth position in the Premier League, where they are three points behind fourth placed Liverpool, who host Brentford in their game in hand. But while many fans were less than pleased with the performance, Scholes thinks United can give themselves a pat on the back.

"They got the job done,” he said to Premier League productions. “It wasn’t a great performance, as we’ve seen, probably didn’t create as much as you would have liked.

“Luton made it very difficult for them throughout the game but it’s job done. They’ve won the game and hopefully now [they have] a nice little break for a couple of weeks and come back and find a bit of form."

Despite the doom and gloom around United, the victory over Luton was their fourth Premier League victory in five matches. While their performances have hardly screamed top four contenders, they are back in the mix for the Champions League places.

Under pressure boss Ten Hag was far from impressed by his side, but he did praise them for seeing out the victory. "We had to score earlier and also then the second," Ten Hag told Sky Sports. "In two halves we created seven or eight chances but we only scored one goal.

“Until the end you have to fight and battle and not concede a goal. A team can always make from one moment one goal – it wouldn't have been deserved by Luton.
