Jurgen Klopp on Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool have reportedly been told to pay over £40million to secure one of England’s most promising youngsters who has drawn comparisons with Reds star Trent Alexander-Arnold. Jurgen Klopp has set his sights on recruiting Leeds United wonderkid Archie Gray, who has been making waves in the Championship for his club after breaking into the team under Daniel Farke, and the Premier League outfit are already plotting to launch a bid to capture his signature.

Gray was named on Leeds’ bench for a Premier League game against Arsenal when he was a 16-year-old and featured regularly in the matchday squad under Marcelo Bielsa and Javi Gracia, although not under Jesse Marsch. However, he has flourished under Farke this term after wowing the German coach in pre-season.

Now 17, he has emerged as one of the most impressive performers in the Championship, featuring in all but one of Leeds’ games since making his professional debut on the opening day of the campaign.

The central midfielder has jumped the queue ahead of other Leeds talents after showing his promise, and it appears Liverpool have taken notice of his performances, according to the Daily Mail.

The England youth international has been liked to Alexander-Arnold due to his ability to play multiple positions, as he can operate as an inverted right-back and a central midfielder. Like Gray, Alexander-Arnold came into the side as a teenager and has never looked back, making over 250 appearances for his club.

The 24-year-old is now regarded as a key player at the club due to his incredible passing ability and record of assists. And it seems that the pair could soon be playing alongside each other if Klopp gets his wish.

The Liverpool boss will be keen to tie up a deal quickly before other clubs join the hunt for the highly-rated midfielder, with Crystal Palace and Everton both showing interest in the youngster. Leeds are reluctant to sell their prized asset, but the Yorkshire club would be powerless to resist if they received a big-money offer.
