Georginio Rutter is proving the central figure in a Leeds strikeforce dripping with pace, power and creativity.

Heaven knows how good the 21-year-old Frenchman could be if he adds goals to his repertoire on a consistent basis.

For all Rutter’s clever movement and neat approach play alongside Dan James, Joel Piroe and Crysencio Summerville, Leeds’ record signing has netted just three times this term.

Two second-half misses might have proved costly, but Leeds held on for their sixth win in seven and fifth straight home victory. Boss Daniel Farke admitted: ‘Georgi is brilliant and is producing top performances but his goal tally could be better.

‘There were one or two situations where he should have scored, but he’s a young lad and will improve.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke called for Georginio Rutter to be more clinical after drawing a blank against Plymouth

He was hopeful the player could become more clinical while working with France U21 boss Thierry Henry this week

‘To be the finished product at his age would be a miracle, so he can’t be perfect in each and every area. But he has to be a bit more clinical.’

Working with one of the greatest strikers in Premier League history during the next week should help. Rutter’s form has earned him a recall to Thierry Henry’s France Under 21s squad for matches against Austria and South Korea.

Farke added: ‘To have Thierry Henry as an idol and role model is always good because he’s one of the most exciting players this planet has seen.

‘That’s a great honour for Georgi and a great chance for him. I hope he grabs it and if he comes back with a better end product then even better.’

First-half goals from James and Piroe put Leeds in control before Argyle substitute Ben Waine’s late strike set up a nervy finish.

But Farke, who had the luxury of bringing Patrick Bamford and Willy Gnonto off the bench, saw his men move to within eight points of leaders Leicester at the Championship’s summit.
