Cesc Fabregas has appointed himself as Como’s interim manager\u00a0after Moreno Longo was sacked on the weekend.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The former Torino and Frosinone manager was sacked by the Serie B side after their victory over\u00a0Ascoli on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n
The Como board members were frustrated with their position in the table – sixth – and decided to axe Longo regardless of the result.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Shortly after Longo’s departure, the Italian club announced that\u00a0Fabregas\u00a0would be stepping in as their interim manager.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Fabregas – who had been coaching Como’s U19 side after becoming a part-owner in the club with Thierry Henry – took control of the first XI effective immediately.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Despite appointing himself as the club’s interim manager, it has been stated that the board will begin the process of searching for a ‘new head coach’.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Como announced the departure of Longo and shared their plans for hiring a new coach by sharing the following statement: ‘Como 1907 and Moreno Longo have parted company.<\/p>\n
‘The search for a new Head Coach begins immediately with Cesc Fabregas and the current coaching staff taking over duties for the interim period.’\u00a0<\/p>\n
The decision will see Fabregas, who played for\u00a0Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea, Monaco and Como, take charge of his first senior side.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n
Fabregas threw himself into studying towards his UEFA coaching A license while also juggling the dying embers of his playing career with Como in Serie B.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Fabregas told Mail Sport it was a much-needed distraction as his desire to play dwindled towards the end of his career.\u00a0<\/p>\n
When announcing his retirement,\u00a0Fabregas said:\u00a0‘It is with great sadness that the time has come for me to hang up my playing boots.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘From lifting the World Cup, the Euros, to winning everything in England and Spain and nearly all the European trophies, it has been a journey that I’ll never forget.<\/p>\n

‘After 20 incredible years full of sacrifice, dedication and joy, it’s time to say thank you and goodbye to the beautiful game.’<\/p>\n
He went onto tell Mail Sport:\u00a0‘Obviously the love for the game never goes away but I was feeling that I didn’t have the same fire that I used to have before.<\/p>\n
‘The training sessions, I wasn’t really enjoying them anymore and I always said the day that I wake up and I don’t feel the same way, the same passion going into the session, that you don’t enjoy the football, it was time to go and to try something else.<\/p>\n
‘But I’m blessed and I’m happy that I found my passion very quickly.’<\/p>\n
