Papiss Cisse is best known for scoring a goal of the season for Newcastle and earning millions in China – and he might be set for a non-league debut.<\/p>\n

The 38-year-old former Senegal international is training with Northern Premier League outfit Macclesfield following his release from Amiens in France, six years after scoring 44 goals across 131 games for Newcastle. <\/p>\n

His time in England also included one of the best goals in top-flight history with the outside of his boot against Chelsea, which he might soon be trying to replicate in the seventh tier. <\/p>\n

Cisse joined Newcastle from SC Freiburg in 2012 and scored 13 goals across his first 14 Premier League fixtures including a brace in the aforementioned win over Chelsea.<\/p>\n

He went on to play for Shandong Luneng in China and Alanyaspor, Fenerbahce and Caykur Rizespor in Turkey before spending a season in France.<\/p>\n

The Telegraph report that he is currently training with Macclesfield in a view to signing a playing contract for Alex Bruce's side.<\/p>\n

Bruce, a former United prospect and son of Steve Bruce, recently took charge as first-team manager with Phil Bardsley named as assistant boss.<\/p>\n

The Phoenix club of Macclesfield Town FC, who were wound up in 2020, have cited the wealth of experience of the new group who will work under director of football Robbie Savage.<\/p>\n

They have also been joined by Paul McGuinness as head coach after he spent 23 years as United's academy manager.<\/p>\n
