<\/p>\nAaron Ramsdale might be wondering what to get his dad for Christmas. <\/p>\n
How about a muzzle? A silencer perhaps, or some sort of filter for his mouth? Because Nick Ramsdale has too much to say – and most of it is not doing his son any good. Just last month Ramsdale Snr got involved in a row with Jamie Carragher on social media.<\/p>\n
When Ramsdale was asked about it, he did the right thing and didn\u2019t duck the question. He made light of it, too, by revealing his dad had laid into Carragher following a few beers on a blokes golf trip. Ramsdale has shut down his social media and is ignoring the criticism, as he continues to find himself on the sidelines at Arsenal. <\/p>\n

"This isn't the first time my name has been in the press," he said, "and it has been more negative stuff. I drowned it out before.<\/p>\n
"It doesn't help that my dad does it, but it was on a golf trip in Spain with 19 other lads from the local pub! I wasn't too mad at him, he didn't say anything out of turn, it just wasn't helpful for the situation."<\/p>\n
Fine. We could just about forgive this pushy parent for wanting to stick up for his son once. But not twice. So what's the excuse this time then? And what's Ramsdale Sir going to do next, nip round to Aaron's house and tuck him into bed on a night?<\/p>\n

To recap. Ramsdale has lost his place in the Arsenal team to David Raya. That\u2019s it. Ramsdale hasn\u2019t done much wrong, he just finds himself playing for a manager who prefers another goalkeeper right now.<\/p>\n
And the more Mikel Arteta hears Ramsdale\u2019s old man spouting off about it, to give him a headache and distraction he doesn\u2019t need, the more inclined he\u2019ll be to stick with Raya. What was Ramsdale Snr thinking going on a podcast to pour more petrol on the fire? And what was Ramsdale thinking allowing him to do so? Arteta is not blameless either, because he\u2019s handled the situation badly. <\/p>\n
Why doesn\u2019t he just be honest and say he signed Raya because he thinks he\u2019s better than Ramsdale? But Ramsdale is a grown man who earns his living in a man\u2019s game.<\/p>\n

He gets paid handsomely, to deal with adversity as well as adulation and success. He\u2019s strong enough to fight his own battles, and doesn\u2019t need his dad sticking up for him in public. Because being famous like he is is hard enough, without this nonsense making things more difficult.<\/p>\n
He will be embarrassed. Like thousands of kids will be every weekend when their parents act like children themselves on the sidelines. Elite sportsmen are trained and conditioned to deal with setbacks and difficult periods.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s just part of the gig in top level sport. Ramsdale Snr needs to get over himself. But most of all, he just needs to shut up and let his son figure things out for himself, because that's what adults tend to do.<\/p>\n
