Manchester United heroes Gary Neville and Paul Scholes have disagreed about where the Red Devils will finish in the Premier League this season. Erik ten Hag’s team have underwhelmed on the pitch during the early stages of the campaign and have already lost five top-flight matches. Neville has previously said his former employers won’t secure a top-four finish, but Scholes thinks they still have a chance.

United endured a dismal start to the campaign as they lost three of their opening five Premier League matches as well as their first two Champions League encounters.

Ten Hag’s team have improved in recent weeks, however, and have climbed to sixth in the top-flight table off the back of four wins from their last five. But they are still five points adrift of fourth-place Tottenham, with a whole host of teams vying to secure a spot in European football’s top-tier club competition next season.

Last month Neville said on his podcast: “I don’t think Manchester United will finish in the top five this season. But they proved me wrong last season after having a very poor start.”

Other teams, it is much of a muchness. Yeah Liverpool are decent, Arsenal are decent, but Man United should be in that fight for the top four. And I still think they will be come the end of the season.”

United are set to embark on a tough run of fixtures after the international break comes to an end.
