{"id":298158,"date":"2023-11-19T22:23:53","date_gmt":"2023-11-19T22:23:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/allmysportsnews.com\/?p=298158"},"modified":"2023-11-19T22:23:53","modified_gmt":"2023-11-19T22:23:53","slug":"former-arsenal-chief-accuses-mikel-arteta-of-damaging-arsenals-image","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/allmysportsnews.com\/soccer\/former-arsenal-chief-accuses-mikel-arteta-of-damaging-arsenals-image\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Arsenal chief accuses Mikel Arteta of damaging Arsenal&apos;s image"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Former Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein accuses Mikel Arteta of damaging the Gunners&#8217; image after furious VAR rant and insists he would discipline the manager if he was in charge<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mikel Arteta angrily ranted following VAR&#8217;s dealing with Anthony Gordon&#8217;s goal\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Arsenal reacted by putting out a club statement supporting their manager\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Anthony Gordon should ditch England to play for Scotland &#8211; It&#8217;s All Coming Up\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Former Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein has accused Mikel Arteta of damaging the Gunners&#8217; image and has insisted he would have disciplined the manager after his furious VAR rant.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Arteta launched into a stinging tirade after his side&#8217;s 1-0 loss to Newcastle, and fumed at VAR&#8217;s dealing with Anthony Gordon&#8217;s winning goal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Gunners&#8217; boss labelled VAR &#8217;embarrassing&#8217; and an &#8216;absolute disgrace&#8217; after they seemingly missed three potential issues during the build up to the goal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Arsenal reacted by releasing a statement in support of their Spanish manager, but Dein has revealed he would have done things differently.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dein believed Arteta should have have accepted the loss and said the reaction was &#8216;unecessary.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/19\/21\/77998555-0-image-a-1_1700430878328.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Mikel Arteta raged about VAR&#8217;s decison making after the game and labelled it &#8217;embarrassing&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/19\/22\/77998561-0-image-m-3_1700431204841.jpg\" height=\"572\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>David Dein, who was vice-chairman of the club between 1983 and 2007, said the rant damaged the Gunner&#8217;s image<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Talksport Dein said:\u00a0&#8216;In 101 minutes of football we only had one shot at goal, so you can&#8217;t really say that the team deserved to win. It is what it is,<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;There is a process in place for how they deal with these things and I just think it was a little bit unnecessary. I don&#8217;t think it did the image of the club any good.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>When asked about if this would have occured during his time at the club, between\u00a01983 and 2007, Dein said:\u00a0&#8216;It wouldn&#8217;t have happened.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;But we&#8217;re in an emotional game and these things do happen, I think it&#8217;s unfortunate, and you live and learn.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The 80-year-old also revealed he would have &#8216;probably&#8217; disciplined Arteta but also said he would not have wanted to &#8216;undermine the manager either.&#8217;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8216;The manager in the heat of the moment, that&#8217;s what he believed in.
