Ian Ladyman says on Mail Sport&#8217;s It&#8217;s All Kicking Off that England star is &#8216;playing to instruction&#8217; but backs him to return to form<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Jack Grealish has struggled to recapture his form for Man City in recent months\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Ian Ladyman questioned if this was to do with working under Pep Guardiola\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Inside Postecoglou&#8217;s Tottenham: IAKO looks at culture and philosophy changes\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ian Ladyman has questioned whether\u00a0Jack Grealish has lost some of his natural flair as a result of working under Pep Guardiola.<\/p>\n<p>The 28-year-old winger joined Man City from Aston Villa for \u00a3100million in 2021 and after a difficult debut season, he played a crucial role as Guardiola&#8217;s side won the Treble in 2022-23.<\/p>\n<p>However, bar an impressive performance during City&#8217;s 3-0 win over Man United\u00a0last month, Grealish has struggled to replicate that form, adding just two assists and no goals in 13 appearances in all competitions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Grealish &#8211; who failed to impact England&#8217;s disappointing 1-1 draw with North Macedonia this week &#8211; has also faced the challenge of competing with summer signing Jeremy Doku for a position on the left wing.<\/p>\n<p>And <span>Mail Sport<\/span> football editor Ladyman discussed the issue of his form with former Premier League winner Chris Sutton on\u00a0<span>Mail Sport&#8217;s It&#8217;s All Kicking Off\u00a0<span>podcast<\/span><\/span><span>\u00a0and suggested a reason for his recent struggles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/23\/13\/78158887-12784123-image-a-17_1700746293700.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Ian Ladyman questioned if Jack Grealish has lost some of his flair due to working with Pep Guardiola<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/23\/13\/78159289-12784123-image-a-18_1700746339140.jpg\" height=\"357\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Ladyman said it looks as if Grealish is &#8216;playing to instruction&#8217; and has lost &#8216;a little bit of zip&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p><span>&#8216;Sideways, backwards, he&#8217;s lost a little bit of a zip has Jack,&#8217; he said. &#8216;And we need him to get it back so we can see the Grealish that we love, don&#8217;t we?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I&#8217;ve still got all the faith in the world about him, but what really interests me about that situation is that I think it is a Pep Guardiola thing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I think he&#8217;s playing to instruction. I think he&#8217;s playing to keep the ball, he&#8217;s playing to win fouls.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;And I find it as a football fan, as a football observer, as a journalist for 20 odd years, I find it interesting. I find it fascinating. That&#8217;s all.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Sutton then accused Ladyman of blaming Guardiola for Grealish&#8217;s disappointing displays.<\/p>\n<p>Ladyman denied this and added: &#8216;I&#8217;m really not. What I&#8217;m trying to say is, Pep likes to micromanage players. He literally walks onto a training ground and moves them into position.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/23\/13\/78159029-12784123-image-a-21_1700746466529.jpg\" height=\"357\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Grealish played a crucial role as Guardiola&#8217;s side romped home to a historic Treble last season<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/23\/13\/78160135-12784123-image-a-28_1700747210001.jpg\" height=\"393\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>However, he has struggled for form in recent months but Ladyman backed him to recover<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;And I think this is a lot to<span>\u00a0do with the Grealish conundrum at the moment. I think he&#8217;s been asked to play a certain way and I think that has taken some of that natural instinctive flair out of his mentality for the time being.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8216;I think it&#8217;s a problem that will be corrected. City won&#8217;t even see it as a problem because they are winning matches and I&#8217;ve got no idea whether Jack Grealish sees it as a problem.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8216;He&#8217;ll probably want to get his goals and assist numbers up.\u00a0He&#8217;s a natural attacking wide player whose natural instinct has always been to take players on, get to byline, cross the ball, make things happen and he&#8217;s playing in a different way.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I find it interesting, simple as that. Don&#8217;t try and make it sound as though I&#8217;m trying to drive some kind of\u00a0<span>wedge between Grealish and Pep.
