Violinists welcome Katie Taylor onto the stage for weigh-in

Katie Taylor has opted for a more understated fight week, turning down interviews and press events to focus solely on the job at hand on Saturday night. However, that didn’t stop Matchroom from putting on a show at Friday’s weigh-in.

Taylor and Cameron were welcomed to the stage by two violinists, who were playing the Game of Thrones theme song and dancing around the rostrum as the fans at the Helix theatre cheered for the challenger.

The same violinists were present for Taylor’s first fight against Cameron in May – with some fans questioning whether they were a ‘bad omen’ given the Bray Bomber suffered the first and only defeat of her professional career last time out.

Speaking to Mail Sport at the weigh-in one fan said: ‘Not the violinists! I saw them come out and it brought me straight back to May. It better not be a bad omen for our girl Katie!’.

While another one added: ‘Katie clearly doesn’t want all the theatrics. But, she looks good and I have no doubt she will put it out of the bag against Cameron on Saturday night’.

Cameron tipped the scales at 139.5lbs ahead of this weekend’s clash with the Bray Bomber

Taylor weighed in at 139.6lbs, which is lighter than she was for the last fight against Cameron back in May. Meanwhile, the British boxer tipped the scales at 139.5lbs ahead of this weekend’s clash.

Hundreds of fans flocked to Dublin City University to cheer on the Irish boxer – with little girls and boys holding signs saying ‘We love to Katie’ as they waved vigorously at the 37-year-old.

Taylor is grateful for the support from her fans, but has made it clear over the years that she doesn’t need the attention. I would go as far as saying she actually hates the cameras, the scheduled press events and her sponsorship obligations.

Taylor has also diverged from the typical boxing route of talking trash to her opponents, even after losing to Cameron in May. Instead, Taylor has said she will let her actions in the ring do the talking.

Speaking at Thursday’s press conference, Taylor said: ‘There is nothing else to say really. I am just ready to fight. I hate all the talk, I hate all these press conferences. There is nothing to say. I am just ready to fight at this stage. I am excited and very grateful to have this opportunity.

‘I am ready for whatever comes my way. I am ready to dig deep when I have to. That is why I put my body through the trenches week in, week out throughout training camps to be ready for these situations.’

Speaking previously about the way in which she conducts herself, Taylor said she would never ‘compromise’ who she was to play up to the cameras. She even cited Manny Pacquiao as her inspiration.

‘I think I’ll stay away from that,’ she smiles. ‘I don’t think you really need to do it. Manny Pacquiao is the most loved boxer in the world and I’ve never heard him trash talking. He always has a smile on his face. I’m never going to compromise who I am.’
