Oscar Pistorius is already facing "revenge" death threats after it was announced he's being released from prison.

On 24 November, a private parole board hearing at Atteridgevale prison in Pretoria set his release for 5 January 2024, over a decade after he was sent behind bars for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

And, according to reports, former Olympic runner Pistorius is hoping to become a preacher after he leaves prison. However, Johannesburg police recently received information that the city’s underworld want revenge for Reeva's murder.

A statement from police read: "We have received information that there are people who say he deserved to pay for killing a young woman. South Africa cannot afford to have any more violence connected to Pistorius and police will work very hard to ensure his safety."

Pistorius has been paranoid about potential assassins, and when on bail he refused to go near windows out of fear for his life. The South African would also eat beans straight from a can in prison to make sure his food wasn't poisoned.

The disgraced Olympian is now hoping to dedicate his life to God when he's freed early next year. While in prison, Pistorius became a spiritual guide for his fellow inmates, and he encouraged them to pick up the bible and worship Jesus.

His family have high hopes for his new lifestyle, and they'll support him when leaving prison. Pistorius will reside in his uncle's £10m mansion, according to Sky News.

Pistorius shot dead model Reeva, 29, with four bullets fired through the locked door of the bathroom in their South African mansion on Valentine’s Day 2013. He was then sentenced to 13 years behind bars in 2016.
