winner came within three minutes of replacing Juninho Bacuna\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Inside Ange&#8217;s Spurs:\u00a0Listen to It&#8217;s All Kicking Off on how he transformed the club\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Wayne Rooney finally has lift off at Birmingham after a late winner from substitute Jordan James handed the former England captain his first win as boss.<\/p>\n<p>The Blues had collected only one point from their opening five games under Rooney, after sacking John Eustace when they were sixth in the Championship.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So when Sheffield Wednesday \u2013 who had claimed only one point on the road all season \u2013 took the lead through George Byers seconds before half-time, the crowd were ready to turn on Rooney.<\/p>\n<p>But Juninho Bacuna\u2019s stoppage-time equaliser lifted the fans and three minutes after replacing Bacuna, James tapped in the winner from close range after his original shot had been saved.<\/p>\n<p>Chief executive Garry Cook and Blues\u2019 American owners \u2013 including NFL great Tom Brady\u00a0\u2013 have bet the farm on Rooney and failure here would have left them with serious questions to answer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/25\/17\/78228869-12790355-image-a-12_1700932159658.jpg\" height=\"453\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Jordan James sealed a late win for Birmingham after his goal from the bench in the 81st minute<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/25\/17\/78228873-12790355-image-a-13_1700932162527.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>James&#8217; Iorfa 6.5, Ihiekwe 6, Diaby 6.5, Famewo 6; Vaulks 6; Byers 7 (Fletcher 83), Bannan 6; Musaba 6 (Gassama 64, 6), Windass 6 (Cadamarteri 83), Wilks 6 (Johnson 64, 6).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span>Subs not used:<\/span> Vasquez, Palmer, Bernard, James, Charles.<\/p>\n<p><span>Scorers: <\/span>Byers 44<\/p>\n<p><span>Booked: <\/span>Windass, Wilks, Bannan, Musaba<\/p>\n<p><span>Manager:<\/span> Danny Rohl 6<\/p>\n<p><span>Referee: <\/span>Rebecca Welch 6.5<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday\u2019s away record should have reassured Rooney\u2019s team but it had the opposuite effect as the visitors looked more dangerous throughout the first half, and Dion Sanderson did well to block an early strike from Byers.<\/p>\n<p>Then John Ruddy was caught in possession by Mallik Wilks and the Blues goalkeeper was relieved when the Wednesday man fired wide of the near post.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That prompted some boos from the home fans and soon afterwards, youngster Emanuel Aiwu made a vital intervention to stop Anthony Musaba\u2019s cross reaching a team-mate.<\/p>\n<p>Dressed in his long black puffer jacket and baseball cap, Rooney grew agitated with the fourth official as a couple of marginal calls went against his team.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Yet referee Rebecca Welch was spot on when she booked Josh Windass for a ridiculous dive when it would have been smarter to shoot.<\/p>\n<p>Windass then volleyed wide when Barry Bannan\u2019s superb crossfield pass found him unmarked eight yards from goal, and at the other end Bambo Diaby made an equally impressive clearance to stop Jay Stansfield turning in Siriki Dembele\u2019s cross.<\/p>\n<p>With half-time approaching, Wednesday took the lead.
