Jill Scott delivered some brutal advice to Daniel Sturridge on Sky Sport’s show ‘A League of Their Own’ after the former Liverpool striker recounted how his old club narrowly came close to winning the Premier League in 2014.

Sturridge, 34, who played for Liverpool between 2013 and 2018, proved a key part of Brendan Rodgers’ side that missed out on winning the league title by two points to Man City.

While the title race was still on right up until the final three games of the season, the Merseyside outfit suffered a 2-0 defeat by Chelsea, before drawing 3-3 to Crystal Palace, who scored three late goals to see Rodgers’ side slip away from the title.

Sturridge, who scored 21 goals in the Premier League that season, recalled the agony of coming so close to winning the title.

‘I still think about it today to be honest,’ he said on ‘A League of Their Own’ after he was asked by Romesh Ranganathan what it was like to come so close to winning the Premier League.

Daniel Sturridge was awkwardly silenced by Jill Scott after he spoke about how Liverpool narrowly missed out on winning the Premier League in the 2013-14 season

Scott hit out at the ex-Liverpool forward claiming that if ‘he hadn’t been vibing’ Liverpool may have won the league

‘Because you always think you get so close to that success. Sometimes I’m driving in my car and I can hear a tune that was playing that year in the dressing room at that time and I’m vibing.

‘And then I think damn, we didn’t get it done. But you know, fortunately for the club they won the Premier League and it was a great moment for them.’

While Sturridge is yet to publicly announce his retirement from football, he has recently taken up a punditry role with Sky Sports.

Mail Sport reported earlier this month that the broadcaster could be dragged into the former England star’s legal fight against an American rapper, who claims the footballer owes him a $30,000 reward for finding his lost dog.

But lionesses legend, Scott, subsequently delivered a brutal roast to the former Liverpool star, stating: ‘Maybe if you hadn’t been vibing you might have got it done.’

An awkward silence descending among the show’s guests, before the audience broke out in fits of laughter.

The camera panned to Sturridge who nodded his head and held his hands in the air saying ‘okay’.

Jamie Redknapp then called the former Lionesses star, Scott, ‘a silent assassin’

The former England striker scored 21 goals in 29 league matches during that campaign, missing out on the Golden Boot award to team-mate Luis Suarez

After the noise from the crowd had died down, Jamie Redknapp said: ‘Jill is the silent assassin! Just sits there and picks people off!’

The striker scored 76 goals in 218 Premier League appearances, most of those coming during his time with Liverpool and Chelsea, ranking as the league’s second highest scorer in 2013-14, pipped to the Golden Boot by none other than Luis Suarez that season.

He joined West Brom on loan in 2018 before moving to Turkey the following season to join Trabzonspor as a free agent.

The forward received a worldwide ban from football in 2020 after he had broken betting rules before he moved to Australia to play for Perth Glory.

But after a tough spell in the A-League, Sturridge parted ways with the Australian side and has been out of a club since June 2022.
