{"id":298917,"date":"2023-11-28T11:24:29","date_gmt":"2023-11-28T11:24:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/allmysportsnews.com\/?p=298917"},"modified":"2023-11-28T11:24:29","modified_gmt":"2023-11-28T11:24:29","slug":"luis-diazs-father-thanks-god-as-he-celebrates-his-55th-birthday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/allmysportsnews.com\/soccer\/luis-diazs-father-thanks-god-as-he-celebrates-his-55th-birthday\/","title":{"rendered":"Luis Diaz&apos;s father thanks God as he celebrates his 55th birthday"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Luis Diaz&#8217;s father thanks God as he celebrates his 55th birthday with his family in England &#8211; less than a month after being rescued from ELN kidnappers in Colombia<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Luis Diaz Snr was rescued from his ELN kidnappers on November 9 after 12 days\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The 55-year-old was in attendance at the Etihad for Liverpool&#8217;s 1-1 draw at City\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Pressure is easing on Man United boss Erik ten Hag: Listen to It&#8217;s All Kicking Off\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Liverpool star Luis Diaz&#8217;s father has posted an emotional message of thanks as he celebrates his birthday with gamily members, less than a month after being rescued from kidnappers in his native Colombia.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Luis Manuel Diaz spent 12 days being held hostage by guerrilla terrorist group ELN after being taken in his hometown at gunpoint at the end of October, before being rescued in November.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The heartening news came just hours before Liverpool were due to take on Toulouse in the Europa League &#8211; a game which his son played in, only to lose 3-2 in dramatic circumstances.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mane, as he is known, has since been seen at Liverpool games cheering on his son, and was in attendance for Saturday&#8217;s 1-1 draw with Manchester City.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 55-year-old put out an emotive post on Instagram on Monday to mark his birthday, thanking God for &#8216;allowing&#8217; him to celebrate another year in the company of his loved ones.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/28\/10\/78316819-0-image-a-21_1701167182159.jpg\" height=\"316\" width=\"306\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/28\/10\/78316817-0-Diaz_Snr_celebrated_his_special_day_with_his_family-a-22_1701167182160.jpg\" height=\"316\" width=\"306\"><\/p>\n<p>Luis Diaz poses with his father as he celebrated his 55th birthday with his family earlier this week<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/28\/10\/78317483-0-image-a-23_1701167215620.jpg\" height=\"426\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The Liverpool star has returned to regular action for the Reds since his father&#8217;s release<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/28\/10\/78315781-0-image-a-24_1701167237338.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Diaz Snr was kept as a hostage for 12 days after being kidnapped at gunpoint in his hometown<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I want to thank God for allowing me to celebrate another year of life, my family, my wife, my children, my daughter-in-law for making me spend this beautiful day,&#8217; Diaz Snr wrote on Instagram.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;God bless you, I always love you with all my heart.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Along with the message, Diaz Snr posted a number of photos celebrating his special day alongside his family, the Liverpool forward included.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Diaz&#8217;s brother, Jesus, is also a professional footballer, on the books at Porto, where the 26-year-old left to join the Reds last year.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He was seized at gunpoint along with his wife and the government soon blamed Colombia&#8217;s last remaining rebel group, the National Liberation Army. Diaz&#8217;s mother, Cilenis Marulanda, was left behind in a car.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Friends and family gathered in his neighbourhood to greet him upon his return on November 9, with Diaz thanking God for &#8216;a second chance&#8217; after driving back home.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I thank Colombia for this great support&#8217;, he added. &#8216;Very soon I will have the opportunity to greet them and give them a hug.
