Football fans have had a field day blasting Barcelona players past and present after an image of their post-match meal choices in 2014 resurfaced on social media.

The LaLiga giants – then managed by Luis Enrique – were coming off a disappointing 0-0 away at Malaga which saw them fall to second in the standings after five games.

On away trips the food is usually prepared by the hotel where the players are based before and after the match. Post game it is usually served in the dressing room or on the team bus that takes the players to the airport or directly back to Barcelona.

Goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen made the most exotic choice, requesting ‘Sushi and a chocolate spread sandwich’, while most of his teammates opted for a pizza of some kind.

The simplest was served to Lionel Messi, who asked for a ‘Cheese pizza’, his fearsome attacking colleagues decided to go for ham and cheese. Luis Suarez accompanied it with a Caesar salad, while Neymar went for some fruit.

Fans took to social media to slam some of the choices on display, though some were in stitches over the quantity of food some players ordered.

‘Everybody be having long orders, and then there’s Messi,’ one wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Another questioned: ‘What was Ter stegen cooking?’ A third commented: ‘Messi does it simple on and off the pitch.’

A few eye-catching selections among the other players were Ivan Rakitic’s unique request for two helpings of Sushi, Sergio Busquets specifically asking for only pineapple and strawberry in his fruit order and Andreas Iniesta’s ham and cheese pizza washed down with a bologna and chorizo sandwich.

However, Sergio Roberto stole the show, after clearly working up an appetite, he ordered Sushi and a triple sandwich with Nutella.

‘Iniesta threw down. Of course Messi ordered a cheese pizza like a 5 year old’ Another fan wrote on X.
