Jamie Carragher could not resist calling out Thierry Henry live on air after the French football legend made an inadvertent blue remark in the CBS Sports studio on Wednesday evening. But the former Arsenal great was not impressed with his colleague’s jibe and reacted sarcastically.

Carragher and Henry are regular pundits on the American Sports Network alongside former Manchester City defender Micah Richards. The trio covers Champions League matches with show host Kate Abdo and has become renowned for their light-hearted approach to punditry as a team.

During Wednesday’s show Abdo hosted a Q&A session, during which the anchor asked her panel to name the funniest player each had played with during their football careers.

Studio guest Clint Dempsey was the first to respond, claiming that “crazy” Jimmy Bullard was the most entertaining from their time together at Fulham.

But as Richards struggled to come up with an answer, the ex-City man said that he was the “funny one” in the teams that he represented.

Unsatisfied with his answer, Henry responded: “That is not the question though, you didn’t play with yourself, right?”

Richards then decided that it was controversial forward Maro Balotelli.

Carragher, meanwhile, had picked up on Henry’s slightly risky choice of words and took him to task, saying: “He did what?”

Henry repeated: “He didn’t play with himself, that is what I am saying.”

The awkward exchange caused show host Abdo to giggle before she told Carragher to “shut up”.

A clearly unimpressed Henry glared at Carragher before snapping back: “I know Jamie, you’re funny haha,” before the entire panel cut the tension by bursting into laughter.

The broadcasting style enjoyed by Abdo and her punditry panel is a major departure from the more straight-laced approach experienced by UK viewers on TNT Sport.

The chemistry between Carragher, Richards and Henry has been widely praised, despite the latter having to perform his role in a second tongue.
