<\/p>\nTottenham boss Ange Postecoglou was once beaten to a Championship job by a now-unemployed manager.<\/p>\n
The Australian has received plenty of plaudits for his work already at Tottenham, going unbeaten in his first ten Premier League games in charge. Spurs\u2019 impressive start to the campaign sees them currently sit in fifth place, with ambitions of securing a Champions League place for next season.<\/p>\n
But things weren\u2019t always so blissful for the 58-year-old, having missed out on becoming Huddersfield manager in 2019. The Terriers instead appointed Danny Cowley – who was sacked later on that season.<\/p>\n

Postecoglou at the time was managing Japanese side Yokohama Marinos. He interviewed for the West Yorkshire role, impressing but losing out because the club couldn\u2019t get a deal over the line.<\/p>\n
Former Terriers director of football David Webb recalled: \u201cWe had a couple of long-distance phone calls. I spoke to him and really liked him as a person.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was someone who I felt would have fit Huddersfield really well because of his values and I liked the way he played. I like authenticity and he was just himself. This is me, this is how I am, this is how I play, this is what I do.<\/p>\n

"He\u2019d done his homework on the Huddersfield squad. But where he was situated, we couldn\u2019t move quick enough to get him over the line where we needed it to be.\u201d<\/p>\n
Postecoglou later moved from Japan to Scottish giants Celtic. There, he won five trophies in two seasons. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Cowley was most recently in charge of Portsmouth. Inconsistencies in form meant two mid-table finishes for Pompey under the Englishman, resulting in Cowley\u2019s sacking in January 2023.<\/p>\n
