‘This kid caught me with a fast punch I did not see, and it was a good one,’ England told the Herald and Review newspaper.

‘I don’t know if he broke my nose, but my nose is pretty big and cut today; he put me down and I had no idea where I was.

‘You know, I have no memory of that at all. I thought the ref stopped it when I got back up.

‘And then I looked at the fight video afterwards and said “Man, I kept going for a few more punches and I just don’t recall that part”.’

England, a former DJ and news anchor, had admitted he had pursued the fight to fulfil an ambition to become known as the oldest welterweight boxer in the world.

‘To be honest, the way I got beat up I will probably have that record forever,’ England said. ‘Because they probably won’t ever let another old guy like me in the ring.’

The 59-year-old claimed he had been inspired by his friendship with the late boxing legend Muhammad Ali, who he had met after exchanging letters with him during his career.

England has claimed he has been told the Guinness Book of World Records has informed him he owns the record for having become the oldest professional boxing debutant.

He has confirmed that his brief boxing career has come to an end after his sole and brief fight.

Boxing fans have slammed the decision to allow England to enter the ring for the fight, after he was awarded a boxing licence by the Tennessee Athletic Commission.

England reportedly was only required to pass a basic blood and eye exam to secure the licence, with the 59-year-old then training with professional fighters in the build-up to his debut.
