TNT Sports presenter Laura Woods has fired back at Joey Barton following his controversial social media rant about women in football.

On Wednesday evening, Barton, who was sacked as Bristol Rovers boss earlier this season, decided to take to social media to give his thoughts on women working as pundits on 'men's football', a decision which has seemingly backfired spectacularly.

Amazon Prime, who have been broadcasting midweek coverage Premier League coverage this week, have made sure their punditry panels are always diverse, as they should be in order to truly represent society in 2023.

But ex-Manchester City, Newcastle United and QPR midfielder Barton took issue with this, specifically the women who appeared on Amazon Prime's coverage, writing on X, formerly Twitter: "Any man who listens to Women commentary or co-comms needs their heads testing…"

He then also added: "Women shouldn’t be talking with any kind of authority in the men’s game. Come on. Let’s be serious. It’s a completely different game. If you don’t accept that. We will always see things differently. The women’s game is thriving. Fantastic to see. I cannot take a thing they say serious in the men’s arena."

And to cap things off, Barton also decided to label any men who supported women covering 'men's football' as "eunuch’s". However, that seemingly means by his own statement, Barton himself might be a eunuch too, at least in the eyes of Woods.

Replying on social media to one of Barton's posts, where he took aim at a video from Georgia Hampson, Manchester City's social media manager, Woods wrote: "Usually avoid these conversations as I don’t like adding more oxygen. But throwing young vloggers to the wolves is wrong.

"I started my career vlogging & I’ve always got on with Joey. He also sent me a lovely good luck message for TNT in June. Does that make him a eunuch too?" And it's safe to say football fans across the country greatly enjoyed Woods' takedown of Barton, who has been widely panned and criticised by pundits and supporters following his comments.

TalkSPORT pundit and ex-Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor wrote: "Laura don’t miss." A second said: "Cook him Woodsy."

A third added: "He’s been at this since last night, god knows what’s happened for him to suddenly out himself as one of the biggest misogynists in football. Clearly has issues." A fourth commented: "Expose the fraud." And a fifth said: "Woods at the back post."

Woods continued: "Joey’s entitled to his opinion. If he feels that strongly about women in the men’s game he could ask for a private conversation with the broadcasters & state his case. These tweets only encourage a pile on for the women getting on with their jobs. Or was that the intention?"

And in response to a fan telling her Barton had accused him of having no testicles for challenging his statements, she added: "This is where it’s hypocritical. I’m assuming you have no testicles for supporting women working in football? Yet he appears to be a supporter of mine. Does that mean he also has no testicles?"
