Rio Ferdinand had to hold back the giggles after Peter Crouch make a joke about birds live on air.

The pair were at Selhurst Park previewing Crystal Palace vs Liverpool for TNT Sports when they were joined by the London club's official mascot, Kaya the bald eagle. Both former footballers appeared a little uncomfortable in the presence of the animal, with Crouch admitting he was expecting a person in a costume rather than an actual bird of prey.

Ferdinand then urged his colleagues to keep Kaya away from him, telling them: "I'm not good around birds". A quick-witted Crouch immediately replied: "Aye – that's not true," prompting howls of laughter from Ferdinand and presenter Jules Breach.

Liverpool will go top with a win today, though they'll be leapfrogged by Arsenal if the Gunners beat Aston Villa in the late kick-off. Palace, meanwhile, are looking to extend the gap between themselves and the relegation zone, which currently stands at seven points.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Klopp played down the importance of potentially going top of the table. He said: "In this moment I'm not bothered about it, because at this moment it's not important.
