Jean-Clair Todibo is Manchester United fans’ pick for their top January transfer window signing. In a poll of Express Sport readers, Nice centre-back Todibo proved to be the overwhelming preferred target of Red Devils supporters.

United have been linked with signing a new centre-back ahead of January. The Old Trafford outfit are reportedly eyeing a deal with Jim Ratcliffe-owned Nice for defender Todibo.

The former Barcelona star is not the only player linked with United, though. Erik ten Hag appears to be keeping his options open in search of an upgrade on the likes of Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof.

Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, Portuguese starlets Antonio Silva and Goncalo Inacio, and Bayer Leverkusen ace Edmond Tapsoba are reportedly all of interest to United. But there was only one winner when all five names were put to a vote of United fans.

A huge 35 per cent of supporters voted that Todibo was the defender United most needed to sign. Palace and England man Guehi came second in the poll with only 24 per cent.

Tapsoba, who is enjoying an excellent campaign under Xabi Alonso at Leverkusen, earned just seven per cent of the votes.

However, it comes after Ten Hag admitted there may be no January business at all at Old Trafford. The under-pressure tactician, who has already lost 10 matches this season, insists he will try to improve the players who are already in his squad.

Asked by fanzine United We Stand if there will be any arrivals in the upcoming window, Ten Hag said: “I don’t think so — and if so, the approach from United should be that if you can improve your team, then you should do. What we expect from every player coming to Carrington every day is for them to give their maximum, to give their best.
