Aston Villa’s media team poked fun at Kai Havertz with a cheeky post after Arsenal were beaten by Unai Emery’s men on Saturday. John McGinn’s early goal was the difference at Villa Park as the hosts continued their impressive run of form to move within two points of Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Havertz was visibly frustrated at times during the match, with the Arsenal forward seeing a late equaliser ruled out for a handball. He also sparked a late confrontation with Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez when he bundled into the Argentina international while challenging for possession.

Villa took to X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday to share a picture of Havertz grabbing the shirt of Youri Tielemans as they battled for the ball. They poked fun at the Arsenal man via the caption, which read: “Who else really wants a Youri Tielemans shirt?”

It came after Havertz was left incensed by his late strike being disallowed, with referee Jarred Gillett correctly spotting a handball in a sea of bodies during a goalmouth scramble. Havertz bundled the ball into the net but his celebrations were cut short before a lengthy VAR check failed to intervene, allowing Villa to hold on for a hard-fought victory.

I thought we deserved more… Now onto Tuesday. Thank you as always for the support!”

Mikel Arteta, meanwhile, was clearly annoyed by the decision to rule out Havertz’s late goal but refused to question the referee given the fall-out from Arsenal’s defeat at Newcastle last month. Earlier in the game at Villa Park, the Gunners were also denied a penalty when Gabriel Jesus went down under the challenge of Douglas Luiz in the box.
