Roy Hodgson\u00a0couldn’t help but smirk at\u00a0Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola\u00a0as his Crystal Palace side battled back to secure a point against the Premier League champions.<\/p>\n
City took control from the outset at the Etihad and were rewarded for their dominance as Jack Grealish opened the scoring with to extend his goalscoring streak to three consecutive Premier League games.<\/p>\n
The Citizens doubled their lead after the interval through Rico Lewis, and looked on course for their first home win in the league since the third of November as the game reached its closing stages.<\/p>\n
Despite the deficit Palace preserved, and pegged a goal back through Jean-Philippe Mateta with just over quarter of an hour remaining of normal time.<\/p>\n
Mateta was again at the heart of the action in stoppage time when referee Paul Tierney pointed to the spot after Phil Foden’s mistimed clearance brought down the French striker inside the box.<\/p>\n

The result leaves City three points adrift of leaders Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp’s side having the opportunity to extend that gap to six when they take on Manchester United on Sunday.<\/p>\n
