Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has told his doubters they are ‘talking s***’ in a defiant message ahead of the Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against Newcastle. Jackson, whose inconsistency has divided opinion among fans this season, scored his seventh goal of the season in his side’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Sheffield United on Saturday.

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino raised the expectations when he said at the start of the season that Jackson can become world-class. But it has not entirely been plain-sailing for the summer arrival from Villarreal.

Among his seven goals was a hat-trick against nine-man Tottenham. After that game, Pochettino told his centre-forward that he needed to be more clinical after missing several huge chances.

There have been flashes of brilliance from the 22-year-old and he was in the right place to score from close range against the Blades. And the Senegal international has hit back at his critics, telling them they are ‘talking s***’ and have no knowledge of the game.

He also pointed out that the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah have previously struggled at Stamford Bridge before going on to become world-class footballers. “It is OK, it is not what I was going for, though it is my first season, so I am happy, although everybody is talking s***, I am very happy I don’t care what people say,” Jackson said after Chelsea’s victory at the weekend.

“It is just people who don’t know about football. I will just continue to play more games and score more goals for the team. I should have scored more because I have missed some chances. The Premier League is different from La Liga, where I came from. I am trying to adapt myself.

“It is not an excuse. I am trying to continue to work harder and listen to people. Not the people who do not know football, I listen to the coach that knows more football and try to improve myself.
