{"id":301161,"date":"2023-12-21T15:24:39","date_gmt":"2023-12-21T15:24:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/allmysportsnews.com\/?p=301161"},"modified":"2023-12-21T15:24:39","modified_gmt":"2023-12-21T15:24:39","slug":"ceferin-insists-uefa-wont-try-to-stop-the-european-super-league","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/allmysportsnews.com\/soccer\/ceferin-insists-uefa-wont-try-to-stop-the-european-super-league\/","title":{"rendered":"Ceferin insists UEFA WON&apos;T &apos;try to stop&apos; the European Super League"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin insists they WON&#8217;T &#8216;try to stop&#8217; the European Super League, before urging the breakaway competition to go ahead with their plans&#8230; as he insists &#8216;football is not for sale&#8217;<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><b>The European Super League announced its proposed\u00a0new structure on Thursday\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said they wouldn&#8217;t attempt to stop the plans<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Chris Sutton says Jurgen Klopp IS right to call out his own fans &#8211; It&#8217;s All Kicking Off\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has spoken out on the proposed new plans for the European Super League.<\/p>\n<p>The rebel breakaway league was given a boost by a court ruling on Thursday morning when the European Court of Justice ruled that UEFA and FIFA were found to have acted against competition law in blocking its creation\u00a0in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0binding ruling handed\u00a0out\u00a0marked the latest stage in a legal process initiated by the European Super League Company after clubs who participated in the breakaway plans were threatened with sanctions by the governing bodies, while they faced a barrage of overwhelming criticism.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new format &#8211; which was revealed by A22 CEO Bernd Reichart in a presentation &#8211;\u00a0was immediately rejected by clubs including Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid.<\/p>\n<p>However, Ceferin refused to be drawn too deeply on the new proposals and urged the breakaway competition &#8211; which has continued to receive strong backing from Real Madrid and Barcelona &#8211; to go ahead.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/21\/14\/79214097-12890021-image-a-13_1703168093861.jpg\" height=\"424\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Aleksander Ceferin has spoken out on the proposed new plans for the European Super League\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/21\/14\/79209725-12890021-The_new_plan_for_the_European_Super_League_has_been_revealed_pic-a-14_1703168101246.jpg\" height=\"428\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>European Super League CEO Bernd Reichart revealed the breakaway league&#8217;s proposed structure on Thursday morning<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8216;I am so happy that we saw the presentation and that it is clear now that they are offering a closed competition which we knew all the time, but they tried to present publicly that it&#8217;s not true.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We\u00a0will not try to stop them. Even before we never tried to stop them and we said that publicly many times.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;They can create whatever they want.\u00a0I hope they start their fantastic competition as soon as possible\u2026 with two clubs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I hope they know what they are doing, which I&#8217;m not sure they do.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Football is not for sale. star, gold and blue &#8211; with the star league the strongest and blue the weakest.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The star and gold leagues would have 16 teams separated into two groups of eight, but the blue league would have 32 clubs, split across four groups of eight.<\/p>\n<p>Each team would be guaranteed 14 matches with everyone playing their group stage opponents home and away on midweek dates between September and April.<\/p>\n<p>The top four clubs from both groups in the gold and star leagues and the top two teams in the four blue groups would then take part in their respective league&#8217;s knockout stages during the spring.<\/p>\n<p>Two-legged quarter-finals and semi-finals would follow, before the winners of each league would be crowned following finals at neutral grounds.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The plan &#8211; which is being led by sports consultancy firm A22 &#8211; insisted it was &#8216;based on sporting merit with no permanent members&#8217;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As a result, the proposals include promotion and relegation with the bottom team in both groups of the star league being relegated and replaced by the two finalists in the gold league.<\/p>\n<p>This is the same for the blue league finalists, who will replace the teams that finish bottom of each gold group.<\/p>\n<p>There is an even bigger turnover from the blue league, with 20 clubs to leave the competition each season and be replaced by 20 others based on their domestic performances.<\/p>\n<p>The initial year of the competition would see clubs in all leagues selected based upon &#8216;an index of transparent, performance-based criteria&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/21\/14\/79209723-12890021-It_comes_after_a_court_ruled_UEFA_and_FIFA_acted_unlawfully_in_b-a-15_1703168282079.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The ECJ ruled on Thursday that UEFA and FIFA acted unlawfully in blocking its creation in 2021<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/21\/14\/79207553-12890021-Fans_turned_out_in_full_force_to_protest_the_announcement_of_the-a-16_1703168291114.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Fans turned out in full force to protest the announcement of the &#8216;closed&#8217;
