Eddie Hearn has claimed that Conor Benn’s fight with Chris Eubank Jr is ’48 hours away from being dead’ because the latter’s camp is demanding a figure he ‘can’t hit’.

The Matchroom Sport chairman has tried to negotiate a deal but now the grudge match between the two has once again been jeopardised.

Benn made headlines in October 2022 when his bout with Eubank Jr was cancelled just days before it was due to happen after he twice tested positive for clomifene in a Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA) test, thereby receiving a ban.

His suspension in Britain was lifted by the National Anti-Doping Panel (NADP) in July and a fight on February 17 had been touted.

However, the British Boxing Board of Control will not sanction the fight and Hearn’s latest comments have only added to fears for the fight’s prospects of happening.

According to Hearn, Eubank Jr’s camp are demanding a figure for the fight that he ‘can’t hit’

Hearn told MMA Fighting: ‘He’s got his number somehow from somebody, and we can’t hit that number.’

He added that the bout is ’48 hours away from being dead’.

Benn got back in the ring earlier in September and beat Rodolfo Orozco by unanimous decision.

If the fight with Eubank Jr cannot go ahead, he could be looking at someone like Devin Haney as his next opponent.

Haney claimed the WBC lightweight world title with a unanimous decision win over Regis Prograis, extending his record to 31-0.
