Formula 1 TV presenter Laura Winter freaked out live on air after being confronted by a Blue Man Group at the Las Vegas Grand Prix. So far, the Las Vegas race weekend hasn’t lived up to expectations, with several problems arising, from loose manholes on the track to high ticket prices, and restricted views.
But on a lighter note, fans who stayed up to watch F1’s coverage of both FP1 and FP2 – with the latter not starting until 2:30 a.m. local time – were treated to a light-hearted moment as host Winter and her colleagues were surrounded by three members of the Blue Men group. And as she made eye contact with one of them, the host lost all of her composure on-air.
Winter covered her mouth and let out some awkward laughs as she stumbled her way through the rest of the segment. Despite being stunned, Winter revealed there was a happy ending, as posed for a photo alongside the wide-eyed Blue Men.
“I am so sorry, I’ve never in my life lost it so badly on air but I found this genuinely absolutely terrifying. Still shaking. There was a happy ending of sorts,” she joked on X, formerly Twitter.
F1’s return to Las Vegas has been a disaster, with complaints from locals over how preparations for the race have disrupted day-to-day life in the city. It also appears that F1 overestimated interest, with tickets for the event still available to be bought and local hotel prices dropping. North of $500 million was spent on putting on this weekend’s event and the opening ceremony was far from a hit to kick things off.
Triple F1 world champion Max Verstappen slammed the race as a show and barely a sporting event. While FP1 was canceled after minutes following a manhole causing damage to two cars, both needing repairs, with one even picking up a grid penalty for changing parts. The second practice session did not get underway until 2:30 a.m. local time, much to the displeasure of fans. Drivers and staff also looked visibly tired.

“99% show and 1% sporting event,” Verstappen told media. “I don’t have a lot of emotions to be honest, I just want to focus on the performance side of things, I don’t like all the things that are around, I know they are part of it, but it is not in my interest. [The track] is not very interesting], and I just want to do the best I can – there is no problem – but it’s not really my thing.
“If I like it or not, it is not up to me, but I am not going to fake it. I just voiced my opinion on positive and negative things, and that is just how I am. Some people like the show a bit more, I don’t like it at all. I grew up just looking at the performance side of things, and that is how I see it as well. I like to be in Vegas – but not so much for the racing.”
