Fabrice Muamba was once left baffled by Chris Kamara when the iconic commentator asked him if he saw his dead dog in the afterlife.

At the time, Muamba had recently survived the cardiac arrest he suffered while playing for Bolton Wanderers in a 2012 FA Cup clash against Tottenham. The former midfielder's heart stopped for 78 minutes after he collapsed on the White Hart Lane pitch in front of terrified fans.

He went on to survive the ordeal and talk about the terrifying experience, while spreading awareness for the use of defibrillators and CPR training. In an interview with Kamara on the Sky Sports show Goals on Sunday, the commentator let his curiousness get the better of him and ended up asking the midfielder if he had seen his beloved red setter in the afterlife.

“I wanted to know, 78 minutes seems a long time to me,” Kamara said in an interview with the Times, while recalling his interview with the ex-Arsenal midfielder. “Did you see anything? It was tongue in cheek.”

“That would have been brilliant, wouldn’t it?” Kamara added. “You could prove that there’s life after death. And I wouldn’t have minded so much when my time comes, you know.”

Kamara also divulged into the awkward moment in his book 'Kammy: My Unbelievable Life.' He wrote: "Fabrice Muamba’s appearance is a case in point. Naturally, much of the conversation centred around Fabrice’s collapse on the pitch at White Hart Lane when effectively he ‘died’ for seventy-eight minutes.

"He talked about the events leading up to the cardiac arrest, the medics who performed miracles to keep him alive, and how he was coping after being forced to retire from the game. It was incredible stuff.

"In an attempt to lift the mood, I asked whether he’d seen our red setter Sasha, my favourite dog, who’d died about ten years earlier, while he was hovering in that strange world between life and death. Shep (Ben Sheppard) was completely floored by the question, as was Fabrice, who laughed as he reported that, funnily enough, no he hadn’t seen Sasha that fateful day.

"I haven’t asked about contacting a daft dog in the afterlife since."
