Death, taxes, and Grame Souness having a dig at Paul Pogba over seemingly wasting his footballing talent.
Just when the dust appeared to have settled on their feud following Pogba's move back to Juventus last year, former Sky Sports pundit Souness has reignited their rivalry anew. That's after the Liverpool legend referred to the Manchester United flop as a "lazy t**t" after he was asked about his long-running criticism of the player.
"'He's an extremely talented young man," said Souness while appearing at a recent Second Captains podcast event in Dublin. "He should be one of the best midfielders in the world. But he's lazy.

"If you remember how he used to take penalties [staggering his run-up]. That was him wanting to be the star of the show for that period of time. If he's lazy in matches he'll be lazy in training and how can you get after the rest of them if you don't get after him?"
Pogba, 30, rejoined academy club Man United for £89million in 2016 and spent six years at Old Trafford before moving back to Juve in the summer of 2022. Asked if he felt any of his critiques against the World Cup-winner were unfair, Souness refused to concede ground in the battle
"Not for a nanosecond, no. He's a lazy t**t," came the Scot's reply. Pogba's flair-filled football couldn't be further from the no-nonsense methods Souness revelled in throughout the 1970s and '80s.

As things stand, Pogba is unable to prove Souness' scrutinising comments right or wrong, with the player provisionally suspended after testing positive for testosterone. The positive test was taken after Pogba was an unused substitute against Udinese on August 20, and he could be banned from football for four years depending on further analysis.
That was the latest twist in what's been an unsatisfactory return to Turin thus far as the playmaker has contended against injuries and flagging form over the past year. It was during Pogba's inactivity at United that Souness previously questioned the player's commitment to his career, which has been a rollercoaster of world-beating highs combined with crushing lows.

The pair's verbal sparring hasn't been completely one-sided, though Souness has certainly been the more active participant by some margin over the years. Pogba said in 2020 that he 'didn't even know who Souness was', insisting he 'likes to focus on football'.
The Scot would likely dispute that latter comment based on Pogba's lack of on-field minutes in recent times, making just 12 appearances for Juventus in a little more than a year during this second spell in Italy. The Parisian's latest absence was no choice of his own as he awaits judgement on his alleged offence, with no certainty he'll get another chance to prove Souness wrong.
