L’Equipe ratings slam Kylian Mbappe as Newcastle star gets 8 after PSG battering

L'Equipe's famously brutal player ratings have torn into PSG star Kylian Mbappe's lacklustre showing against Newcastle – and picked one stand-out man-of-the-match.

The World Cup winning France international failed to make an impact on the fixture as St James' Park roared on their heroes to a 4-1 victory – with local lads Dan Burn and Sean Longstaff both on the scoresheet. The French media hasn't taken too kindly to the performance – as shown in their rankings out of 10.

Mbappe has been slammed with a 2/10 assessment with captain Marquinhos and forward Randal Kolo Muani given the same score. Newcastle's leader was in fact Bruno Guimaraes with eight – despite Miguel Almiron and Fabian Schar also finding the back of the net.

Other notable ratings including a three for Goncalo Ramos, Achraf Hakimi and Manuel Ugarte, with no PSG player scoring better than 17-year-old Warren Zaire-Emery with six.

As per L'Equipe harsh assessments, only Almiron, Schar and Longstaff scored over six – which was given to their remaining seven players.

The result leaves Newcastle top of the group with four points after Borussia Dortmund drew 0-0 with AC Milan in the other fixture.

Pressure is already growing on PSG boss Luis Enrique, who won a Treble with Barcelona in 2014/15, with the club sitting fifth in Ligue 1.

The Spaniard said after the game: "I don’t think the score reflects the game. But Newcastle definitely deserved to win."

Howe's men looked fearless and there was only one winner after Almiron pounced on an early mistake to send the crowd wild.

Eddie Howe said on TNT Sports: "Amazing evening for us, so many stories to talk about within the game. I am delighted for the club and the supporters what they gave us tonight was incredible.

"They [PSG] are such a good team we had to defend really well and our spirit was brilliant. We created the positive things in the first-half and the aggressive pressing which is a haul mark of ours."
