Rio Ferdinand left TNT Sports' coverage of Newcastle's draw away at PSG early due to "unforeseen circumstances".

The Manchester United legend, 45, joined host Laura Woods and fellow pundit Jermaine Jenas pitchside at the Parc des Princes in Paris on Tuesday (November 28) night for their Champions League broadcast.

He was present for the pre-match build-up and also for the half-time analysis, with Eddie Howe's Magpies leading 1-0 at the break thanks to Alexander Isak's goal.

But he disappeared after the full-time whistle, with Woods addressing the situation as they were about to discuss his former side United and their trip to face Galatasaray.

"Rio would be here to chat about Manchester United now but we had to let him go [due to] unforeseen circumstances," she said, before reassuring viewers: "He is OK, don't worry."

PSG were awarded a penalty in stoppage time as Tino Livramento was punished for the ball bouncing off his stomach and onto his elbow in cruel fashion, and against UEFA guidance.

Both McCoist and Jenas were in total agreement that the spot kick shouldn't have been given by Qatar World Cup final referee Szymon Marciniak, with the former labelling it a "shambles" on commentary and the latter slamming it as a "disgrace".

Elsewhere in the Champions League, Borussia Dortmund climbed to the top of Newcastle's group with a 3-1 win away at AC Milan, while Manchester City fought back from 2-0 down to beat RB Leipzig 3-2 and win their group.

Barcelona also secured their progression for the first time since Lionel Messi left the club, and Celtic's exit was confirmed with a 2-0 loss to Lazio.
