Thierry Henry trolls Harry Kane as ex-Spurs striker predicts north London derby

Thierry Henry couldn’t resist the opportunity to try and get a rise out of Harry Kane ahead of the north London derby on Sunday, even if the Tottenham legend is no longer plying his trade in England’s capital for Spurs.

Kane was on the scoresheet for new club Bayern Munich once more as the Bavarians clinched a 4-3 home win against Manchester United in the first of the Champions League group stage matches on Wednesday night.

The England captain could easily have ended up at Old Trafford himself before signing for Bundesliga champions Bayern in an ยฃ86.4million summer move. But there was no sentiment involved when he dispatched a spot-kick in the 53rd minute that helped the German outfit get their campaign off to a winning start in a match that was more comfortable for the hosts than the scoreline suggested.

Kane was interviewed after the match by the American TV station CBS Sports, who Henry works for as a studio pundit. And it was here that the Arsenal legend took his opportunity to rib Kane who was Tottenham’s talisman for over 15 years.

He joked: “Harry, it’s Thierry here. Congratulations first and foremost. I have a question for you, but first I have to tell you, you look good in red and white. Sorry, I had to say that.”

The jibe, which is a reference to the traditional colours of Arsenal, drew laughter in the studio from Henry’s fellow pundit Jamie Carragher.

After fielding some posers from both pundits, Henry returned with a loaded question about Sunday’s North London derby.

He said: “Harry I have one for you again, as you are wearing red and white. You know what’s happening at the weekend. I know you know. Don’t pretend that you don’t. Who’s going to win?”

“Oh, of course, Tottenham,” Kane replied with a smile. “They’ve started the season well. It should be a great game. I’ll give you a text after the match.”

Henry said: “OK. Let’s talk. We’ll see!”

Kane played for Tottenham’s first team from 2011 to 2023, becoming the club’s all-time record goalscorer with 280 goals in 435 appearances across all competitions.

He did not win any silverware during his time in North London but was a runner-up at the Champions League final in 2020 and was twice on the losing side in the League Cup Final. He won the Premier League Golden Boot on three separate occasions.

Henry spent eight seasons at Arsenal from 1999 to 2007 where he scored 226 goals and helped the Gunners to win two Premier League titles and two FA Cups. He returned to the club on loan in 2012 for two months, scoring twice, including in his final game for the club.
