Bernard Tomic serves incredible underarm at Erste Bank Open
Terrifying footage of Australian tennis star Bernard Tomic being attacked by two men outside of a tattoo parlour in Gold Coast has made the rounds on social media. The 16-second clip shows Tomic being kicked and bashed over the head with a shoe by two men while curled up on the ground.
One man is heard calling Tomic a “dog” before unsuccessfully attempting to pull the tennis player to his feet. Tomic is then seen trying to protect his face with his hands as his attackers rain down a series of blows.
The identities of both men are presently unknown as is the reasoning behind the attack. Meanwhile, Tomic is yet to release a statement regarding the incident.
The 30-year-old was in action on Thursday as he was knocked out of the Istanbul Challenger in the round of 16 by Dominican Nick Hardt over three sets (6-2,3-6, 7-6).

Tomic, once ranked No 17 in the world, has recently enjoyed a career resurgence after falling to No 825 in the world. Over the past 18 months, he has moved up the list to No 292 but was unable to secure a wildcard entry for the Australian Open earlier this year.
Australian Open boss Craig Tiley revealed that Tomic hadn’t met the criteria to qualify for his home Grand Slam. “Our team that looks at the decision has a team of people that looks at the decision of wildcards,” he said.

“(They look at) the player coming in, the strength of their play, what events they’ve been playing, how much they’ve been playing, are they the younger part of our future generation. There’s many factors that go into it.”
Tomic was instead overlooked by a series of younger players, most of whom were ranked lower than him. 19-year-old’s James McCabe (No. 406) and Philip Sekulic (No. 543), 18-year-old’s Derek Pham (No. 1017), Jeremy Jin (No. 990), Edward Winter (No. 672) and American Bruno Kuzuhara (No. 636), who won the Australia Open boys title last year, all earned qualifying wildcards.
Meanwhile, 21-year-old’s Dane Sweeny (No. 249) and Tristan Schoolkate (No. 367) and 23-year-old Adam Walton (No. 432) also joined them in Melbourne.
