Coco Gauff cries in her parents’ arms after winning US Open with heroic victory

Coco Gauff was in floods of tears as she captured her first Grand Slam title on home soil. The teenager came from a set down to defeat new world No 1 Aryna Sabalenka 2-6 6-3 6-2 in heroic fashion. And she went straight to the suite her dad Corey was watch on from, sobbing into his arms before being joined by her mum Candi.

Gauff immediately started sobbing at the net as she closed out the biggest victory of her young career with a backhand winner. Aged just 19, she became the youngest American woman to lift the trophy since Serena Williams 24 years ago. And the weight of the achievement became apparent to the world No 6 as she raced to unite with her parents.

Throughout the tournament, the teenager’s dad and former coach Corey had been watching on from a suite instead of his daughter’s player box with Gauff explaining that he was too nervous to join the rest of the team. And she made it straight up to the area where he was waiting for a tearful reunion.

“You did it,” her mum could be heard shouting as she joined the embrace, with all three in tears. Gauff then made her way down to her coaching camp to celebrate with her new team of Pere Riba and Brad Gilbert. And she opened up on the emotional moment with her parents during her victory speech.
