Disturbing footage of Australian tennis star Bernard Tomic being brutally beaten by two men outside a tattoo parlour has circulated on social media.

In the 16-second clip, Tomic, 30, desperately tries to protect his face with his hands as his attackers stand over him and land a series of kicks and blows.

Tomic, who was once ranked as high as No 17 in the world, appears to have been cornered and then attacked by the men, whose identities remain unknown.

In the video, one man is heard telling Tomic – seen in the grey tracksuit – to ‘get up ya dog’ before unsuccessfully attempting to pull the tennis star to his feet.

The incident is understood to have occurred outside a tattoo parlour in the Gold Coast, Australia’s Channel 10 has reported.

However, it is unclear when the attack took place.

Tomic had just competed in a challenger event in Istanbul, Turkey, where he lost in the round of 16 on Thursday in three sets.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Queensland Police for comment.

Tomic showed plenty of promise at the beginning of his career with two junior Grand Slam singles titles, four ATP titles, a quarter final appearance at the Wimbledon Championships and a world ranking of 17.

However, the 30-year-old’s ranking plummeted to as low as 825 in 2022 and he is desperately trying to revive his career in lower-ranked tournaments around the world.

He has enjoyed a resurgence in the past 18 months and now sits at 292.

Despite that, he was earlier this year denied a wildcard entry to the Australian Open, missing the tournament for the first time since 2008.

The snub also led to his long-running feud with fellow Aussie Nick Krygios reigniting.

When one Twitter user suggested Tomic deserved a wildcard at Melbourne Park, Kyrgios responded: ‘Hahahahaha NO HE DOESN’T.’

The pair’s colourful history includes the suggestion they sort out their differences in a boxing ring as well as a ‘winner takes all’ tennis match worth $1million (£512,000).

His failure to secure a spot was the result of having a new batch of talented locals to choose from, according to tournament boss Craig Tiley.

‘One thing that’s great is we’ve got a new problem – we’ve got a lot more Australian players to choose from, and that’s a great problem to have,’ Tiley explained.

‘It’s our performance team that look at the decision of wildcards.

‘What it goes into is the player coming in, or the strength of their play, how they’ve been playing, what events they’ve been playing, how much they’ve been playing. Are they the younger part of our future generation, the younger players?

‘There’s many factors that go into it and it’s not a quick decision they go through.’

Tomic – who did himself no favours when he fell out with Tennis Australia and slammed Davis Cup captain Lleyton Hewitt – was defiant after getting the bad news.

Tomic has insisted that ‘this year is my year’ despite falling down the rankings to be listed as the 462nd-best player on the men’s tour

‘I’m not expecting any favours’,’ he responded.

‘I’m going to prove my point and earn my way. I’m at a place in my life where I don’t complain anymore.

‘I’m focused and I’ve been training hard. I’ll let my tennis do the talking.

‘Last quarter of 2022 I won three tournaments and won four finals. This year is my year. If no one is going to help support me, I’ll get back to [the] top 100 on my own.’

Tomic took the runner-up prize at the M15 Doha 2023 Tennis Tournament in January after he was beaten by Estonian Kristjan Tamm, who was ranked 778th at the time.

He posted an image of him with Tamm on his Instagram account with the caption: ‘Great start to the year. Thanks for having me Qatar’.
