UFC star Jailton Almeida distracted by fly in ‘boring’ win over Derrick Lewis

Fans think UFC star Jailton Almeida got bored during his bout with Derrick Lewis after the Brazilian appeared to get distracted by a fly in the cage.

Almeida romped to a unanimous decision victory over his American opponent in Sao Paulo, just down the coast from his hometown of Salvador, at UFC Fight Night on Saturday. He controlled most of the fight on the ground, with his 21:10 control time setting a new single-fight UFC heavyweight record.

Given the amount of time both men spent on the mat, a number of fans on social media branded it "the most boring fight" they'd ever seen. And considering how Almeida seemed to briefly turn his attention to a fly buzzing around his head, they might have a point.

"Almeida is so bored 10-8ing Derrick Lewis right now that he got distracted by a fly in the cage," one viewer wrote on X. Another said: "It's probably the most boring fight I have ever seen."

A third added: "This was the first main event I’ve ever turned off before it was finished. Boring." A fourth quipped: "That really was a terrible fly-ight, I mean fight."

The result means Lewis, who was looking for his second win on the bounce, has now lost four of his last five fights. Almeida, meanwhile, secured his 15th successive victory in a run that stretches back nearly six years.

After the clash, Almeida issued a call-out to one of the UFC's biggest names in a bid to make a mouth-watering match-up next year. "I'm going to call out a name here. I want Ciryl Gane. I'll fight in Paris, whenever," the 32-year-old said according to CombatSportsUK.
