Indian fans have been labelled ‘pathetic and immature’ for their reaction to Australia’s incredible Cricket World Cup final victory.
Spectators inside the 130,000-seat Narendra Modi Stadium gave a peculiar response during the trophy presentation as Pat Cummins’ side were crowned world champions for a sixth time on Sunday.
On-field umpires Richard Kettleborough and Richard Illingworth were booed by the crowd for seemingly no apparent reason, with there being no controversial decisions made during the match.
Travis Head, who scored a stunning century to win the game for Australia, was met with silence when he reached triple figures at the crease too.

Fans were heard chanting ‘Rohit, Rohit’ when Australia were handed the trophy on Sunday
‘Some 80 people among the 11000+ at the Narendra Modi Stadium clapped their hands together as Travis Head raised his bat after reaching his 50,’ cricket journalist Bharat Sundaresan said on Twitter.
‘Must feel like a late-season #SheffieldShield game at the Adelaide Oval.’
Indian comedian Anshu Mor was equally scathing of the treatment of the Australians.
‘Crowd booing the umpires receiving medals and then shouting Rohit Rohit when Australian team was receiving their medals – absolute d***heads!!’ he posted online.
‘Cities with a great cricketing culture like Mumbai, Chennai or Kolkata should hold these big matches.’
The Indian team was also nowhere to be seen when Australia were handed the famous trophy on Sunday, a point which Michael Vaughan noticed.
‘Didn’t like not seeing the Indian side stay out on the pitch to see the Aussies lift the trophy,’ he said.
