Verstappen says ‘stop this s**t’ as Dutch anthem played during off-season stream

Max Verstappen was caught on his own live stream saying “stop this s**t” after being pranked with the Dutch national anthem following a win in a racing game. F1 fans have become accustomed to hearing “Wilhelmus van Nassouwe” play on the podium over the past two seasons.

The reigning world champion had just claimed a victory in the game when one of his party chimed in with the comment: “That’s textbook stuff Max.” Shortly after, the Dutch national anthem began playing loudly on the stream.

Verstappen was taken aback by the sudden blast of the song before his emotions turned to frustration. He pleaded: “No come on, stop this s**t” before his friends turned off the anthem, prompting another exclamation of “Oh my God.”

F1 fans are getting used to hearing the Dutch anthem on a nearly weekly basis after Verstappen claimed victory in 19 of the 22 Grands Prix during the 2023 season. 17 of those wins came during the final 18 rounds of the season too, with Carlos Sainz’s triumph in Singapore the only break from his total dominance.

“I think it did hit me a little bit more once I was standing on the podium in Abu Dhabi… you know you realise the season is over, you don’t get to drive this car anymore unfortunately. But yeah, it’s been incredible, it’s been a lot of great fun as well, to work with everyone.
