Arteta gives Arsenal team news update for Bournemouth trip
Arsenal are reportedly in a four-way battle to sign Feyenoord star Santiago Gimenez as the North London outfit desperately scour the market for another forward. The Gunners are expected to bolster their ranks in the January transfer window, though they aren’t the only Premier League outfit in the market for a new No 9.
Mikel Arteta reshuffled his ranks slightly over the summer with the acquisitions of Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, David Raya and Jurrien Timber. The quartet of new arrivals have helped the Gunners pick up where they left off last season as they have remained unbeaten in their opening six matches of the campaign, winning four.
Arsenal appear to have improved with the sprinkling of new players, but there are still questions about whether they are truly capable of challenging for the Premier League title without a top-level striker. Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have both performed with credit during the opening stages of the new season, but reports of the club looking elsewhere suggest that Arteta is also keen to dip into the January window for new recruits.
According to BILD, Arsenal are one of four clubs monitoring Feyenoord star Gimenez in the hope of luring him away from the Eredivisie in 2024. The striker has scored nine goals and assisted two in six league appearances so far this season, recently grabbing a hat-trick against Ajax – in a match that was abandoned and then eventually played out earlier this week.

Gimenez was linked with a move away from De Kuip Stadium over the summer but opted to remain faithful to Feyenoord, and he could be rewarded with a significant move in January. Chelsea and Tottenham are also keen on the Mexico international and have registered an interest in acquiring services.
Borussia Dortmund are also monitoring Gimenez’s situation closely and sent scouts to watch him play against Ajax last weekend, when he scored twice before violence from the home supporters prompted the officials to abandon the match.

The Bundesliga side may not have the finances to be able to compete with Premier League sides, but the prospect of playing regularly and having an exit facilitated further down the line – as Dortmund assure new signings of – could prove persuasive to Gimenez.
If Arsenal’s pursuit is unsuccessful then they may turn their attention to a proven striker, such as Ivan Toney. The England international has been heavily linked with a move away from Brentford in January after changing his agency with the intention of securing a mid-season exit.
