Ex-Liverpool stars Fernando Torres and Alvaro Arebloa continue feud

Former Liverpool stars Fernando Torres and Alvaro Arebloa continue feud with touchline spat after ‘mini Madrid derby’… just months after rival youth team bosses were involved in shocking bust-up

  • Fernando Torres and Alvaro Arebloa were involved in another spat on Sunday
  • Torres was sent off for shoving and threatening Arbeloa during a match in May
  • The pair were team-mates at Liverpool but are now both managing at youth level

The feud between former Liverpool stars Fernando Torres and Alvaro Arebloa continued with another touchline spat at the weekend.

The pair spent two-and-a-half years together at Anfield under Spanish boss Rafael Benitez.

But now they are youth team bosses at arch rivals Atletico and Real Madrid.

Torres is now the manager of Atletico Madrid’s famed Juvenil A squad, while Arbeloa is in charge of Real Madrid’s U19 side.

And things got heated when their teams met in the ‘mini derby’ on Sunday, with Torres’ side claiming a 2-1 win.

The pair were team-mates at Liverpool from 2007-2009 and played together for Spain as well

While Torres celebrated the result with his coaching staff, footage from Marca showed that Arbeloa did not hang around to shake hands with his opposite number, briefly waiting before heading to the dressing room.

Arbeloa was unaware of the drama after the final whistle as rivals players squared up to each other on the opposite side of the pitch.

It comes after Torres was shown a red card for threatening Arbeloa during an U19s game in May.

Things got heated between them when they squared up on the touchline.

And as shown by footage online, Torres, 39, was sent off for confronting and shoving his compatriot.

After a flare-up on the pitch, former defender Arbeloa approached the iconic former striker, clearly angry and gesticulating.

Torres, who has bulked up considerably since his playing days, then gave the 40-year-old a shove, saying ‘I’ll blow your head off’.

The former striker, managing Atletico Madrid U19s, was then shown a red card by the referee

Arbeloa then responded: ‘Start whenever you want.’

The referee showed Arbeloa a yellow for his actions, before giving Torres his marching orders, to the delight of the home Real crowd.

Footage then shows several furious Atletico players and coaches storm onto the pitch to confront the official.

The game finished 2-2 after extra time, 4-2 to Los Blancos on aggregate, sending Arbeloa and Co through to the Youth Cup semi-final against Las Palmas.
