Football punter banks over £100k from staggering 25-fold weekend accumulator

A football punter netted just over £106,000 after their staggering 25-fold accumulator came through.

Betting with William Hill on Saturday (October 21), the fan from Sheffield placed £80 on a variety of markets across European football including bets on the Premier League and La Liga. The punter marked the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City to defeat Everton and Brighton, respectively, as well as 1-6 goals occurring in Real Madrid's weekend clash with Sevilla.

Thankfully, those three results came in for the lucky fan as well as 22 other results which resulted in a £106,159.40 payout. A William Hill spokesperson reflected on the remarkable victory and said: "Whether it was luck, judgement or a combination of the two, whenever a 25-fold accumulator comes off it’s an amazing achievement and this is definitely one of the most impressive wins we will see all season.

"There were certainly some interesting selections within the accumulator, but take nothing away from them and the £106,159.40 they are taking home is richly deserved." Whether the fan now decides to place bigger bets considering his new-found wealth, that remains to be seen.

Accumulators – if successful- can lead to life-changing sums of money which is something Darren Yates knows a lot about. Back in 1996, the former joiner placed his last £62 on legendary jockey Frankie Dettori to ride seven winners at Ascot and despite the unlikeliness of it occurring, the Italian came through big time and secured a £550,000 payout for the now-multi-millionaire.

Yates used his winnings build a property and development empire he later sold for a staggering figure of £20million. In a recent interview, he admitted that he burst into tears when he told Annaley of his improbable victory. "I went home and just burst out crying," he said.

"I told my wife Annaley, ‘I’ve done it, darling. We’ve hit the big one’. "She started crying. We sat there hugging each other for about an hour and we just couldn’t stop crying. That was the best moment of my life — knowing all our worries were over."
